About the project

With ‘Future Fauna’ i want to shed a light on the problem of worldwide plastic pollution. Not only our land, but more problematically, our oceans are full of plastic waste.  Since Dutch inventor Boyan Slat launched The Ocean Cleanup I wanted to help this potential solution in every way i could. I’ve been thinking about a way to generate descent funds /donations, with “Future Fauna” i think i finally have a good shot to get there.

Because we are well on our way to wipe out all animal species on the planet, i have given myself the task to create our Future Fauna. As an ‘Artivist’ i create wooden sculptures, glued together with plastic.

Plastic will be a main resource for the next few decades, our oceans are full of it. These future animals greatly reduce the amount of plastic by digestion & recycle the remaining particles. Plastic is in their DNA.

Animals have proven to be better at preserving planet’s health than us, humans. Therefore, through intensive bio-engineering, i provide all future animals with extra abilities to cleanup and preserve our planet. Each animal has unique features that benefit greatly from the fact that all creatures work together as one.

Future Fauna is about using the problem as a resource. Therefore it is essential to clean our oceans from those resources. Seems like a direct link to The Ocean Cleanup to me!

The goal is to spread these future animals globally, so they can take care of our beloved planet.

Tim Michielsen Future Fauna

About the creator …

Tim Michielsen is a multi-talented artist, born and raised in Antwerp who wants to make the world a better place. You may call him an ‘artivist‘ if you will.

After more than a decade of mainly digital work (abstract 3d renders), i wanted to create something with my hands again. Since painting or drawing felt too 2D, i was drawn to making sculptures. ‘Future Fauna’ is my first project as a sculptor.
